Basic Purpose of the Job

  • Aim to position Boehringer Ingelheim as a company with values and a distinctive profile against our major target groups; lay audiences (media/journalists, general public, patients, job seekers), if need - specialised audiences (doctors, pharmacists, competitors, etc.), and our employees (BI Japan companies and BI colleagues outside Japan).
  • Strengthen the company image in accordance with the BI’s key statement and timely key topics/projects externally and internally though various related projects and initiatives.
  • Support senior leaders to increase employee engagement & commitment and fosters BI cultures as one team.
  • Utilise and explores appropriate tools and communication channels to maximize the communication opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with media/journalists
  • Manage issues related to safety and security matters to protect company reputation by planning and implementing appropriate communication plans.
  • In coordinating with the global agenda, execute initiatives effectively through effective localization such as corporate branding, internal projects, and social activities
  • Develop effective corporate branding tools

Accountabilities Related Performance Indicators

1. Ensure Boehringer Ingelheim is regarded as trustworthy, reliable, and value oriented in accordance with BI’s intended messages and timely key topics/projects through
  • A wareness of BI / BI Japan
  • Comparative images of BI/BI Japan
  • How far BI messages have reached through press activities: press releases, press conferences, press interviews/briefings etc

2. Establish long-lasting contacts with media and journalists.
  • How far BI messages have reached through press activities: press releases, press conferences, press interviews/briefings etc
  • Minimise the negative impact of press articles/opinions of journalists according to our statements and QAs

3. Penetrate the BI Values and Culture – VTI, Lead & Learn, the distinction and spirits of Boehringer Ingelheim for employees to make strong commitment to the company.
  • Understanding of BI Values and holistic linkage of Values and Culture among employees
  • Daily implementation of VTI and Lead & Learn by employees
  • Evaluation of the VTI Day

4. Increase and maintain the high-level of employee engagement & commitment and fosters BI/BI Japan “Oneness” via the BI Japan Desired Culture, key topics/projects, and balanced information about BI Japan to align with the direction.

  • Employee sensing of realizing the BI Japan Desired Culture.
  • Employee sensing to be “One team”.
  • Evaluation from the Country Managing Director.
  • Evaluation from employees on in-house magazine “BI Platz”
  • Constant/Concise delivering of key information

5. Establish best media mix to provide reliable information in a timely and efficient manner needed by external stakeholders & employees.
  • Investigate and implement an appropriate communication platform that is globally consistent.
  • Review and update standard operation procedures

6. Manage issues related to safety and security matters to protect company reputation by planning and implementing appropriate communication plans.

  • Investigations of potential risks
  • Quick and appropriate actions with relative functions
  • Review and update the standard operation procedures for communications

7. In coordinating with the global agenda, execute initiatives effectively through effective localization such as corporate branding, internal projects and social activities
  • Understand goals and scope of the assignment
  • Involve and align with related functions
  • Plan and execute followed by the feedback/assessment

8. Develop message and stories appealing to defined stakeholders to create desirable perception about BI
  • Develop story angles and create communicative tools and stories

Required Education

Degree / Education

Bachelors Degree

Required Capabilities (Skills, Experience, Competencies)

Corporate and/or Internal communication experience

Pharma or life science industry experience

PR or marketing communication experience

  • Planning and execution by coordinating with stakeholders
  • Strong writing and presentation skills in both English and Japanese
  • Media mix and analysis

Special Work Experience

  • Dealing with journalists/media
  • Creating communication strategy and implementing it
